I have never played a Fire Emblem game, and since Nintendo hasn't been scheduling too well as of late, I was delighted to hear about Wargroove. It was described to me as a sort of Fire Emblem clone, and I leaped on the opportunity; especially since I had heard it was high-quality. Having been made by the same company that made Stardew Valley, I was expecting quality, but Wargroove goes beyond that. Despite the fact that the story isn't exactly great, apparently it lasts for many hours, and the combat system is definitely enjoyable. I love turn-based strategy games, but my main issue with many modern titles is that they have so much grinding in them. Since Wargroove is formatted into levels, that completely eliminates that problem, leaving a sense of accomplishment after every fight. You can play against more than 2 friends at once, and after playing against a friend of mine, the game truly grew on me. You can also make your own maps and campaigns, which adds even more to an already large amount of content. This isn't even mentioning the fact that you can play other people's custom stuff from online, and that the game isn't limited to just the system it's on. With the inclusion of cross-platform functions, as well as the aforementioned aspects, Wargroove is a game that far exceeds its price-tag. I'm not saying that it's the greatest game ever, but I am saying that it is terrifically done and at a pretty cheap cost to boot. If you like turn-based strategy games, or are just interested in this one, I implore you to give Wargroove a shot.

So, Nintendo didn't have a great 2018. I still got plenty of great games for my Switch, and since I traveled quite a lot this year, I was always happy to them on the go. But very few of these games were first-party titles, and since Nintendo set the bar so high in 2017, I was sad to notice such a huge difference in production. The one game that really blew me away this year was Super Smash Bros: Ultimate. But even a game that good can't make up for so many months of mediocrity. I was worried for 2018, but I'm terrified for 2019. The Nintendo Switch is underperforming, Metroid Prime 4 is being remade from scratch, and we still haven't even heard rumors of a Nintendo Direct yet. This isn't even mentioning that there is talk of another Switch being made, which honestly just confuses me. I'm desperately hoping that Nintendo can stay strong and return to form, but I honestly doubt that the Switch will ever have a year as good as 2017 again.
